Valuable thoughts from Cyberstones on preaching.

Read them all here.

A couple of goodies:

The preacher who does not live his theology, who does not preach from his own pain and joy, in the midst of his own temptation and comfort, is only a philosopher.

Preaching is also doxology. It confesses for the people. It expresses their fears and desires and also their joy. It is not always adversarial.

So how transparent should that pain and joy be?

Good question. Petersen could answer for himself but I don't preach my own pain and joy, I preach from it. In other words, I preach to what I gather to be common experience. I assume in other words that what I feel others are feeling as well.

The Scripture must be preached in a way that is real to human experience, and our own individual experience is really all we have. Very post modern, no?
